Google Breathe

Web Design

Google Breathe was a project selected as one of the 10 finalist ideas at Google Creative SandBox Brazil 2012. The contest involved participants from all regions of the country including 19 of the biggest creative companies in Sao Paulo.

The brief was based on developing ideas that combined technologies, innovation and Google products with the objective to create new solutions to improve people's lives.

The idea I submitted aimed to bring new data to Google Maps®. It allows users to learn more about the level of air quality in a specific area and to be able to plan better journeys towards areas with less pollution. The data were collected with the support of satellite technology and updated in real-time throughout the day.

The Google Maps® implementation would enhance the experience by providing suggested routes filtered by interest. The Google Breathe section would also bring local communities closer by showcasing stories and recommending a selection of local events. The idea was also designed to live as part of the urban landscape. The data would be displayed on bus stops and public transports bringing smart suggestions in line with the logic of personal digital assistants.

The insights of this idea have anticipated the 2019 Google project that used Street View® vehicles to map air quality at street level.
